Job Description

Position Overview

The Purchasing Manager – Structures Division is responsible for leading and managing procurement activities related to raw materials, fabricated components, and structural assemblies to support production operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring supply continuity, cost optimization, and alignment with project timelines. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Production, Warehouse, and Project Management.

This is a highly autonomous, hands-on role that requires deep experience in sourcing for complex, production-driven environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metals and structural components, demonstrate high attention to detail, and be capable of managing procurement projects and continuous improvement initiatives without direct personnel management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement projects and sourcing strategies for structural materials, components, and subassemblies in alignment with production schedules and cost targets
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to resolve technical procurement issues, material substitutions, and specification changes
  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery, documentation accuracy, and resolution of discrepancies
  • Lead vendor evaluation and selection processes; source and onboard new suppliers as needed to support business growth and risk mitigation
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives by analyzing BOMs and identifying opportunities for savings through alternate sourcing or consolidation
  • Utilize ERP/MRP data to optimize purchasing decisions including reorder points, inventory levels, and purchase quantities
  • Track and improve key procurement KPIs such as purchase order cycle time, on-time delivery, and cost savings
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to align purchasing priorities with project milestones and lead time requirements

Qualifications & Success Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in metals or structural fabrication
  • Demonstrated success managing projects and sourcing processes, including supplier negotiations, cost analysis, and contract terms
  • Strong understanding of structural materials (e.g., steel, aluminum), fabrication workflows, and industrial components
  • Proficient in ERP or MRP systems; experience with NetSuite is a plus
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with ISO or quality system standards and continuous improvement methodologies preferred
